First impressions were great, live music, nice waitress and waiter, and good smelling food. We ordered French Onion soup, Okanagan Elk, Duck Leg, Seafood Risotto, Lava Cake and was not (majorly) disappointed. The French onion soup was a bit too sweet for my taste but the elk meat was great, sweet and sour, and only slightly over my expected amount of cheese. The bread with the French Onion soup was great, the bread was properly buttered and had properly applied garlic. Then the entrees came, and here is where this place drops from five to four stars, the duck leg was mainly good, but there was a little part that tasted bitter that both me and the other person with me could not bear. The seafood risotto was excellent but the rice, in my opinion at least, was less than expected. The rice had a sauce applied to it which made it taste peculiar and sour. Though it did take a while to serve the dessert which was lava cake, though the dessert was not quite as good as expected. I gave this place only three stars because though I had some great first impressions, the service became slower, worse and the food became progressively worse and the price kept adding up.
Delicious food, excellent service and knowledgeable staff! We enjoyed a great dinner out with friends on the patio. We will definitely be returning!
Busy place you need to make a reservation. My boss was there and said I must try the mussels and boy was he right. They are the most tender mussels from Salt Spring Island. I like how the restaurant source out their vegetables from nearby local farmers. The lobster bisque is delicious, so does everything else. Our waitress is very knowledgeable about their wine and made excellent choice of recommendation after learning what we like. I would definitely go back again.
My girlfriend and I did not have a wonderful experience. Although I made reservations, when I gave the hostess my name, she still had to check if a table was available. In my opinion, reservation means a table is already saved. After being seated, the dining lounge was not even full. We were given our menus, and two glasses of water. That was the last interaction we received from the serving staff. During the next 20 mins in the dining lounge, the table next to us received their drinks, had additional orders taken, and some food served. Given the price of the dining experience, and the poor service (or no service), we got up and left.I will give credit to the staff for calling me after we had left to apologize for forgetting about us, but that should never happen. We were offered a gift card, but I will not come back to a restaurant that forgets about customers unless serious changes are made. 1 star is harsh, but 2 stars based on our experience may be too generous. This review was not made to slander, but was written in hopes the owner recognizes his staffs shortcomings and improves. When that happens, I may consider giving this restaurant a chance.
The two ladies we had serving us were lovely and the food was really good too. Lobster bisque and spicy prawns were both delicious. The halibut was great and so was the lamb. The dark and stormy was very good as was the lava cake and pick me up. All in all it was worth the price paid! We will definitely go back.
